Upcoming Service Retreats

I’d like to tell you how these retreats are different…how they are about more than just you.
I’m interested in purpose and service…not only will we travel and learn, we will get to work being of service to the communities we enter.
Service Retreats
Service Retreats are about traveling to beautiful places that don’t look or feel like home. They are about rest and restore, adventure and discovery, and fostering old relationships while forging new ones. AND THEY ARE ALSO ABOUT BEING OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITIES WE ENTER. When on a service retreat with me, our yoga practices will be aimed at developing or restoring the body/mind in response to the work we are doing. These retreats are about using travel and service to help develop an understanding of your true self and finding purpose in your life.
The Development of Self Through Travel
Travel exposes individuals to different cultures, traditions, and lifestyles. This exposure broadens one's understanding and appreciation of diversity, fostering empathy and cultural sensitivity. Learning about and experiencing new cultures firsthand can challenge stereotypes and reduce prejudice. It often involves navigating unfamiliar environments, dealing with unexpected situations, and overcoming language barriers. These experiences enhance one's ability to adapt quickly, think on their feet, and develop effective problem-solving skills. Each challenge encountered and overcome builds resilience.
Seeing different parts of the world and how other people live can provide new perspectives on life. It often highlights the privileges and conveniences one might take for granted, fostering a sense of gratitude. This broader perspective can lead to more mindful living and a deeper appreciation for one's own circumstances.
Travel provides opportunities to meet people from different walks of life, engaging with folks that are “different” fosters communication skills, empathy, and the ability to connect with diverse groups of people.
Travel can be a powerful tool for mental and emotional well-being. It offers a break from routine, reduces stress, and provides a sense of adventure and excitement. The joy and satisfaction derived from new experiences contribute to overall happiness and mental health.
New environments and experiences can spark creativity and inspire new ideas. Whether through the beauty of nature, the architecture of a city, or the cultural expressions of a community, travel stimulates the mind and can lead to artistic and intellectual breakthroughs.
Travel often involves dealing with uncertain and unpredictable situations. Developing a tolerance for ambiguity and learning to remain calm and composed in such circumstances can be highly beneficial in both personal and professional life.
The experiences and memories gained from travel are unique and enduring. They contribute to a rich tapestry of life stories and provide a sense of fulfillment and joy that can be recalled and cherished for years.
In summary, travel is a multifaceted experience that significantly contributes to personal growth. It challenges individuals to step out of their comfort zones, enhances their understanding of the world, and fosters a deeper sense of self-awareness and personal development. It creates kind, resilient and diverse individuals who in turn create kind, resilient and diverse communities.
The Development of Self and Finding Purpose
Self-development is a multifaceted process that aids individuals in understanding themselves better, acquiring necessary skills, setting and achieving goals, building resilience, and ultimately uncovering and pursuing their purpose in life. Through continuous personal growth and exploration, individuals can align their actions and aspirations with their true sense of purpose.
Using Your Purpose to Be of Service
In Yogic philosophy, Service is regarded as a vital and noble path to spiritual growth and self-realization. This is known as Karma Yoga, or the Yoga of action. Karma Yoga is practiced through selfless action performed for the benefit of others without any attachment to the results or personal gain. By engaging in selfless service, practitioners purify their hearts and minds, diminishing the ego and cultivating humility, compassion, and love. Acts of service are viewed as offerings to the divine, performed with a sense of devotion and surrender. This perspective helps practitioners transcend personal desires and ego-driven motivations.
Engaging in selfless service is believed to cleanse the mind of impurities such as selfishness, greed, and pride. It promotes inner peace and contentment. Karma Yoga encourages integrating the spirit of service into daily activities. This means performing all tasks, big or small, with mindfulness, dedication, and a sense of service. Service in Yoga is not merely an ethical duty but a profound spiritual practice that transforms the practitioner and the world around them. It is a way to cultivate virtues, connect with the divine, and achieve a harmonious and enlightened life.
